Argan Oil formulation for your 30's something skin

I know I know, not all skin types are the same in their 30's. Some are battling acne, while others are trying to stop the signs of aging. My point here is not give you the perfect formulation, but to give you ideas on how you can create your own skin formulation using Argan oil.

My skin is dry and acne-prone. It is also prone to discolouration, and because of how fine my skin is, I run the risk of it aging sooner as well. So, when I think of products and formulas, I keep all these factors in mind.

If you are interested in my Moroccan skin care routine, I have a blog post specifically dedicated to that.

First thing you want to do is pick the right ingredients. I have picked oils from the Moroccan culture: Argan Oil, Prickly Pear and Olive Oil. Why these ingredients:

  1. I want oils that won't clog my pores, so all these oils rate low on the comedogenic scale
  2. I want oils that are high in Linolenic acid to combat acne (Argan Oil) and Oleic Acid (Prickly Pear Oil)
  3. I want an oil that acts as an occlusive to create a barrier on my skin so that it doesn't lose moisture.

Now, that I have picked the oils, it's time to formulate. Based on my skin and my budget, I use more of Argan Oil, because acne is still an issue for me. So, a good 60% of my formulation is Argan Oil, followed by 30% of Prickly Pear Oil and 10% Olive oil.

If you want break this down, use 6 tablespoons of Argan Oil, 3 tablespoons of Prickly Pear and 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil.

Mix these oils thoroughly with a fork. You can add a drop or two of an essential oil of your choice. And ta-daa, you have your moisturizer ready. The good thing about this is you can change your formulation, add more oils or less depending on the weather, your skin, your travel plans.
